National park Hohe Tauern
Untouched Nature in Salzburg
A holiday in Salzburg can be activating or regenerating. No matter what alternative you choose, the leisure activities are limitless. Already the National Park Hohe Tauern has a lot to offer. With it’s 1,800 square kilometers it’s the biggest nature reserve in the Alps. The national park is a unique habitat for the rich fauna.
Hiking at National Park Hohe Tauern
The landscape is impressive with it’s glaciers, rock faces, meadows, lovingly kept alps and fascinating flora and fauna. The national park offers 266 summits, 342 glaciers, 279 creeks, 26 waterfalls and 551 mountain lakes. Therefore, especially hikes and bike trips are most beautiful. Too much to see in just one day but always worth a trip.
If you’re lucky you can spy on some of the animals living in the national park. At the beginning of the 19th century many animal species have been exterminated but are now resettled. Today there are living more than 10,000 different species at National Park Hohe Tauern.
The closest entrance to the National Park Hohe Tauern is about 30 kilometers away from Hotel Ritzenhof. A map of trails and further information is available at our reception. Also Hannes, your host himself is pleased to give you some valuable tips for your hike.
